Full circle talk at the Smokey Mountain Children's Home SMCH

I had the privilege of returning to a place that shaped the very foundations of who I am today – the Smokey Mountain Children's Home. Standing there, not just as a speaker but as a testament to the transformative power of support and belief, I was enveloped in a profound sense of gratitude and reflection.

At the Home, where my journey saw its humble beginnings, I shared candid stories of my youth, a time marked by challenges and uncertainties, yet brightly lit by the unwavering support of the staff. Their relentless belief in a seemingly lost cause, in me, turned a wayward path into one of purpose and achievement. We discussed the pivotal role of mentors and how crucial it is to have someone believe in you, especially when self-doubt shadows your potential.

Delving deeper, I explored the three life lessons that have become the cornerstones of my life: perseverance, resilience, and bravery. These virtues, each forged in the demanding environments of military life, have been my guiding stars. The arduous 12-mile marches, the intense moments handling live grenades, and the leap of faith from a plane thousands of feet in the air were not just trials of physical strength but of mental and emotional fortitude. Sharing these experiences, I saw nods of empathy and understanding in the audience, a reflection of our shared human experience in overcoming life's hurdles.
